The Lunar Chronicles

Review by Kate Marie

Cinder

Pages: 448 Stars ⅘ Ages: 10+

Synopsis: A classic Cinderella story except with one major twist, Cinderella is a cyborg! As a young child, Cinder was involved in a tragic accident, costing her an "arm and a leg" literally. Cinder has a prosthetic arm and leg. She was adopted by an inventor and his wife and 2 daughters. The story begins right after the inventor dies.

Parents: Please be advised that there is romance in this book. While her feelings are dimmed down, they are repetitively called out by an android named Iko.

Scarlet

Pages: 512 Stars: ⅘ Ages: 11+

Synopsis: Continuing the series, this book features spilt chapters bouncing back and forth between Cinder and a new main character, Scarlet. Scarlet lives on her grandma's farm. When this book begins, Scarlet's grandma is missing!

Parents: Please be advised that this book does contain some romantic/violent scenes.

Cress

Synopsis: Following the series, Cinder, Scarlet, Wolf, and Thorne attempt to rescue a girl stuck in a satellite orbiting earth! Cress is a lunar shell, meaning that she can't be controlled by a lunar. Cress has been living in the satellite since she was 7. Will she be able to survive on earth?

Parents: Please be warned, Cress and Thorne have some interesting moments, Thorne is blinded when the satellite lands, but he walks into the bathroom while Cress is taking a bath on purpose.

Winter

Pages: 832 Stars: ⅗ Ages: 13+

Synopsis: In this book in the series, Princess Winter, Queen Levana's stepdaughter must learn to face her fears before time runs out. Cinder needs to stop the wedding before Levana's crowned Empress of the Eastern Commonwealth.

Parents: Please be warned that this book contains several romantic and/or violent scenes. NOT FOR YOUNGER VIEWERS, definitely would not recommend reading aloud.

Fairest

Pages: 288 Stars:⅕ Ages: 20+

NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN!

Synopsis: All her life, Levana has lived a very different story, one that she will never tell. In this frightening ending to the series, Levana's motives for everything become clear, Why she tried to kill Cinder, How Winter exists, etc. But darker things may be at play here.

Parents: Please be advised that this series ends very inappropriately. Please consider holding this book back or reading it first and/or selecting certain parts that younger viewers may read.
